Desktop Environment for ROS

Hello everyone,

I'm newbie for ROS. I wonder something for now; Is desktop environment of linux important for ROS? I read that Ubuntu is important to work comfortably. But I don't know, if I use different desktop (Ex: xubuntu) what will happen?
