gazebo crash on startup

I have just installed electric on ubuntu oneiric. I'm finding that gazebo crashes on startup.

console output:

Looks similar to the current crash we're experiencing on Fedora: https://code.ros.org/trac/ros-pkg/ticket/5170 (check out the last bt posted)

thanks for the pointer. I'm going to try it on another i386 oneiric machine I have and see if that produces the same result.
