Compressing OpenNI Depth Stream [closed]

I'm trying to stream the depth image from the openni_launcher. Sending the raw data uses about 4 MB/s. Using compressedDepth uses about 1.4 MB/s. The theora publisher is currently not working so I can't test it out. Uploading 1.4 MB/s is not ideal for a lot of applications. Streaming a full 24 bit image using compressed is only using ~700 kB/s for me. Obviously this doesn't work with a depth image though. Is there a better way to compress? Also, can anyone shed light on whether theora would work for depth maps and what kind of bandwidth it would require?
