unknown option -/.bashrc

asked 2022-02-09 08:20:53 -0500

I can open ".bashrc" file by searching on "Files", but when I want to open ".bashrc" file by terminator, I write "gedit -/.bashrc" and terminator says "Unknown option -/.bashrc".

I write gedit -/.bashrc and terminator says Unknown option -/.bashrc.

.bashrc exists in your $HOME directory.

Bash recognises a shorthand which refers to that directory: the ~ character (or: tilde).

So the correct command would be:

gedit ~/.bashrc

So it's not a - (ie: dash), but a ~.
