i am planning to make an autonomous 2D SLAM robot using ROS i don't know how to start. Can anybody help me ?

I am planning to make a 2D LIDAR based SLAM robot using ROS platform. I don't know how to start,about hardware required. can any one help me.

Turtlebots are nice, and the newer ones are not too expensive. The Turtlebot hardware is very capable and fairly reliable, so it's a good platform for software experiments and testing new sensors.

If you want something a little cheaper, some of the older Neato vacuums make a nice base, and you can attach a Raspberry Pi to run ROS for SLAM. They're a bit more limited because you have to add your own battery for the Paspberry Pi and you're limited to the lidar that's already part of the Neato.

thank you for your reply, actually I am planning to do with Raspberry Pi, I just need to create Map of a building and travel from one room to another, can you help me what i need to do to get that?
