What is the alternative to using kinect/ intel realsense/ or any such camera? Is it possible to do software changes and use a normal camera for mapping?

I want to make TurtleBot2, but I do not have the choice of using kinect or any such dept camera for mapping. I want to know an alternative approach. Thank you.

These mapping algorithms are fundamentally designing to use RGB-D depth cameras. There are other 3D reconstruction methods that work with monocular cameras and IMU's but these are far more CPU intensive.

If you read up on structure from motion you will learn about a technique which can work with a single monocular camera, but it does have drawbacks.
