Max depth option

In the top bar of image view there is a box with default 10 m as Max Depth. What does this do, given that image view doesn't show 3d images?

Also, I searched the wikis for this information and was unable to find it. Where can I find this sort of documentation?

Actual the plugin does support depth images and that is exactly what the max depth option is used for - to map the depth range from 0 to N meters to gray values.
