There does not seem to be a distribution for intel

Yes. The amd64 distribution works on 64-bit Intel and AMD CPUs. amd64 is a generic name for 64-bit Intel and AMD CPUS (since AMD invented the 64-bit instruction set). Ubuntu uses the same naming scheme for their distributions.
