Maybe you can try to upgrade it to the newest format? I think the maintainer could use some help there too
I'd suggest following ros2/ros1_bridge#256 instead. It's the same work, by the same author, but fully up-to-date, and "just" waiting to be merged.
Perhaps if a sufficient number of users report it works for them and comments on the PR, it will finally get the attention it deserves.
