Simultaneous WiFi Internet + Ethernet Velodyne LIDAR Connections

I'm using a VLP-16 LIDAR, but I feel this question is likely a more general question: How do I simultaneously receive data over ethernet from a sensor and access the internet via WiFi?

I started with this guide, which near the beginning innocently says

For now, disable the WiFi connection on your computer.

as if we're going to come back later and take care of this. But by the end of the guide, you're still left with no internet access. I tried simply turning on the WiFi after the LIDAR was set up, but of course to no avail. It's likely my computer thinks the LIDAR is the internet.

There must be a simple solution to this that for some reason I'm missing, because even after a significant amount of searching, I haven't found even a mention of this issue anywhere else online. If someone more network-savvy than myself could provide a suggestion, that would be great.

The Velodyne is on the domain. You need your wifi to be on a different subnet like 192.168.0.XX or 10.0.0.XX. We had the same issue. It is in the Velodyne manual but not on the ROS Wiki.

You can also change the IP of the LiDAR if you can't modify the wifi network. Just be sure the ethernet port is assigned the same subnet.
