cardbox top side recognition

Dear community, What method or tool could you suggest in order to recognize a top of cardboard box in point cloud image? I use Kinect sensor and want to localize the center of box top side. Have anybody an experience in such kind of problem? I've looked at PCL, but there are mostly general approaches such as plane segmentation and clustering and I suppose it is not enough for solving this problem. Maybe I am mistaken?
