Outdoor SLAM Odometer: Visual sensor or laserscanner

I am under consideration finding odometer for outdoor SLAM applying on drone. Visual sensor (stereo or omnidirectional) camera) look popular, but it will get many errors outdoor because the changing of the light. Moreover, It should ask a perfect Gimbal on drone.

Any one can help me advice?
