How to use checkinstall to generate deb file from my packages?

Hi,

I would like to create just one deb file with all my ros workspace (all packages) to make updates on my robots. I saw about checkinstall but i don't know how to use. Is there some examples or docs about it?

I generate a deb file after using checkinstall but it is empty, what could be happen?
