Can I use cartographer via my src folder in catkin_ws?

Hello ROS developers,

After installing cartographer I got a folder named "install_isolated", in which you can find my packages from the src folder in the catkin_ws.

For running cartographer I used the following link https://google-cartographer-ros.readthedocs.io/en/latest/your_bag.html#validate-your-bag

So under this link they are describing evertyhing in the install_isolated folder. Now I would like to use the cartographer over the src folder in the catkin_ws. Is that possible?
