Octomap lidar position requirements

I'm looking into using octomap to map a potato field. I tried searching for lidar position requirements but couldn't find any. I'm wondering if octomap can be used with a lidar that is tilted forward towards the ground (~45 degree angle) or if it's only supposed to be used with a planar/horizontal laser/lidar?
