rosserial and xbee over arduino

I've spent the day trying to make any of the existing XBee tutorials work. I have The XBee Pro 900HP. I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 with ROS Indigo.

Can anyone get the XBee working on an arduino publishing and subscribing over the air to a host ROS node at a PC?

This tutorial is not current and isn't very through. I'm not sure how you flash the configuration onto an XBee on an Arduino shield. It seems as though the programming is done on the Xbee USB dongle. Furthermore, even when you fix the Baud problems (the issue for most people in the forums), I think the commands are different from this tutorial. I cannot get it to work, starting xbee_network.py ends up hanging after "contacting" the nodes.
There are a couple of other XBee tutorials out there, like this one. The issue with this approach is I want to stay in a ROS environment and this example works on the raw serial equipment without going through ROS methods.

Thanks!

Hello, Were you able to figure out the communication issue with the Xbee 900?
