Simulation using ROS

Hello All,

I am new to ROS, I am currently trying to understand what I can simulate with ROS/Gazebo ? Can I simulate different industrial robots and import fixtures and CAD geometries ? Basically what is the output of a simulation ? Can I get interference detection, kinematic analysis, Physics analysis ?

Does ROS work with API's ? Can I integrate with Matlab & Simulink ?

How does a gazebo simulation compare to something like Visual Components ? What outputs can I get from the gazebo simulation ? example: robot utilization, interference detection ?
