make robot rover doing same path for surveillance

Hi, I'm a newby and I need to make a rover platform that navigate indoor along a predefined path for surveillance. I want that it patrol a perimeter. I think line follower, but I see slam and odometry navigation. Is it possible? What sensors and software i need to do it?
