2012-02-13 15:57:29 -0500 | answered a question | Random errors installing electric from source on gumstix overo The 'illegal instruction' is likely independent of the current make step hence it will crop up unexpectedly (even in cases where make doesn't have much to do). In fact, I'd guess 'illegal instructions' get thrown randomly whenever the processor is doing something. It is not clear whether this would be an OS-level problem or something to do with the native compiler. |

Long-story short, -mfloat-abi=softfp is a reasonable flag to include but is possibly the compiler default. |
2011-10-25 05:07:06 -0500 | commented question | Speeding up OpenCV on ARM? I looked at the recommended gcc flags for VFP and Neon support. I believe "-march=armv7-a -mtune=cortex-a8 -mfpu=neon -O3" would be best. '-O3' should do some auto-vectorizing. Unfortunately, this will still be soft float (-mfloat-abi-softfp) as hard float is an ongoing challenge. |

The DSP onboard provides powerful capabilities when used with gstreamer---this may also give some benefit. |
