2017-10-02 20:19:11 -0500 marked best answer Unable to Locate ROS Packages?

Ok so I am completely new to ROS, and I am having some trouble with the tutorial. I managed to install from-source, but now whenever I try to download the indigo tutorial package (sudo apt-get install ros-indigo-ros-tutorials) I get the following error:

E: Unable to locate package ros-indigo-ros-tutorials

How do I fix this? I can't quite figure it out and all the other questions I looked at didn't give me helpful information.

2016-11-05 23:45:24 -0500 asked a question Can I run ROS from a USB Drive?

Hey guys, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to using Ubuntu and ROS. I have a computer that does not have a lot of storage on it (128 GB SSD), a virtual machine runs a bit too slow to simulate things in gazebo so i want to do a dual boot. However I want to know if there's a way to install ROS and Gazebo to a USB stick so I can make a smaller partition for Ubuntu. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks.

2016-09-02 14:35:53 -0500 asked a question [rosrun] Count' find executable named ... ?

Hey all,

I am trying to move my catkin workspace from my old computer to my new one. I copied the folder from my old computer, pasted into the new one with ROS installed. catkin)make gave no errors. However, when i try to run my program, i get this error:

$ rosrun sim_pkg sim_init [rosrun] Couldn't find executable named sim_init below /home/icepaka89/algsim_ws/src/sim_pkg

Clearly there is a problem with ROS_PACKAGE_PATH. But I can't seem to figure it out? Does anyone know an easy way to fix this? I made sure i ran source devel/setup.bash before running my program. Thanks!

2016-06-10 14:07:23 -0500 asked a question How to move Pioneer2DX in Gazebo?

Sorry for the novice question but I can't seem to find helpful tutorials on this. I have a program the will spawn a certain variable number of pioneers into an empty Gazebo world, and I want to be able to control them through ROS. How can I do this? (i.e. how to I make it move forward, backward, get sensor values, etc.) Thanks for the help!

No, even when I put the statement in a system call, the output from the node still appears in the terminal window and I cannot run other nodes

So I am trying to write a program in which a main publisher node will use the system function to run multiple subscriber nodes. I would like to use something like: "rosrun <pkg_name> <node_name> &", however this doesn't work for me and the subscriber node still runs in the same terminal window. How can I change the command so that it executes in the way i described? I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks!!

This totally fixed my problem!! You're a life saver thank you so much!! :)

2016-05-27 15:37:34 -0500 asked a question ROSARIA -- Impossible to Install

Please bear with me as I am getting increasingly frustrated with the immense difficulty of installing ROS and getting it working on my computer. It took DAYS to get ROS to even install correctly, and apt-get install ros-indigo-desktop-full would always exit with errors, every time. No forum posts helped me with this, but i DID manage to get it up and running after just building it from source. I still have to install ROSARIA and Gazebo, and I couldn't even get past the first few steps of the ROSARIA installation tutorial without being buried with errors and problems. I am still pretty new to Ubuntu and all of this is giving me real trouble, and actually helpful online solutions seem to be scarce for this software. Here's the basic rundown of my issues:

-I have tried to download ROSARIA from the website, and install it using Ubuntu Software. This does not even remotely work, I click install, nothing happens, nothing appears. -Next, I tried using rosdep install rosaria. I did this after I did apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, and resdep update. This gives me the same error every time:

ERROR: the following packages/stacks could not have their rosdep keys resolved to system dependencies: rosaria: No definition of [std_srvs] for OS version [xenial]

When I try to run catkin_make, it gets stopped by ROSARIA because of the following errors:

/home/icepaka89/catkin_ws/src/rosaria/LaserPublisher.cpp:5:25: fatal error: Aria/Aria.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated.

Can someone PLEASE help me figure this out, none of the other forum posts helped me and I really need to have this software installed by the end of today.

I had to install from source because " sudo apt-get install ros-indigo-desktop-full " also did not work. This was the only way to even get any form of download going
