2015-02-14 20:36:26 -0500 asked a question 'no updates' from wifi in PR2 dashboard

When opening the PR2 dashboard on my machine (or the basestation) I get a 'no updates' warning from /Computer/Network/Wifi status and the console gets filled with

Caught exception <urlopen error="" [errno="" 111]="" connection="" refused="">

I assume this is the case because the robot is not connected to the internet. When I give the PR2 internet access through SSH tunneling I get

Caught exception HTTP Error 503: Service Unavailable

even though I set it up in such a way that apt and ntpdate (for instance) work when run when the tunnel is active . Is there any way to fix that so that my dashboard is not filled with messages? Is it a bad idea to have the PR2 not be connected to the internet all the time?
