Trying to install ROS Melodic (or Neotic) on Linux Mint 19.3. No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: LinuxMint Description: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia Release: 19.3 Codename: tricia

d, cat /etc/apt/sources.lists.d/ros-latest.list output: deb Bionic main

ensured any old key was removed: sudo apt-key del 421C365BD9FF1F717815A3895523BAEEB01FA116

[returns 'OK']

current key installed: sudo -E apt-key adv --keyserver 'hkp://' --recv-key C1CF6E31E6BADE8868B172B4F42ED6FBAB17C654 Executing: /tmp/apt-key-gpghome.3fanmJbi6M/ --keyserver hkp:// --recv-key C1CF6E31E6BADE8868B172B4F42ED6FBAB17C654 gpg: key F42ED6FBAB17C654: "Open Robotics" not changed gpg: Total number processed: 1 gpg: unchanged: 1

sudo apt clear && sudo apt update

E: The repository ' Bionic Release' does not have a Release file. N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

To answer my own question; I switched to the alternate US mirror site, as described in:, e.g.:

sudo sh -c '. /etc/lsb-release && echo "deb $DISTRIB_CODENAME main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ros-latest.list'
