How would I enable collaborative features using ROS Drivers?

asked 2021-11-11 16:24:23 -0500

I understand it's not currently supported from this answer.

However, I'm still wondering... Is there a roadmap for ROS to support collaborative features in the future? What would need to be done in order to enable collaborative features (i.e. speed limit, force sensing, etc)? Can it be done?

Also, if I'm controlling a collaborative robot using a ROS driver, is it still in collaborative mode??

Are you asking how to do this for specific robot brands, or in general?

I believe it would be important to make this clear (both in the question text as well as the title), as right now it looks like a generic question, but then you refer to a very specific Q&A about a single robot series from one specific OEM.

this is not really a question you can ask. "roadmap for ROS" does not exist, or at least not in the way I believe you are using that phrase here.

There is a "roadmap for ROS" (here), but that would be ROS 2, and it deals with the development of "core ROS 2", not with specific drivers for specific brands of HW.

There is a safety working group though, for which this may be a ...(more)

I was asking how to do this in general, assuming part of the Q&A was also in general as you had mentioned "not just with ROS or with this driver". But thank you for the clarification! Your answers are very helpful
