I normally run ros on a VM on my home desktop, but I now need to run ROS on a laptop so that I can start working on my project in the office, where I do not have my own desktop and am required to use my own laptop there.

Is there any way for me to run ROS on a Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, which has 8GB RAM, and do simulations on Gazebo with as little lag/as smoothly as possible? Or am I forced to look into getting a new laptop with better specifications?

Have you looked into WSL -windows subsystem for Linux? Sits not optimal but will let you install ROS
