Populating PointCloud2 message

Hi all, I have found some answers to this but they all seem related to older versions of ROS and rely on older ROS distributions. As of today (Ros2 foxy) which is the most efficient way to assign the values of a pointcloud2 msg? I am iterating element per element but I suspect this is not the most efficient way.
