How should I organize file and projects?

Good day,

I am new to ROS, started 2 days ago and by following the tutorial, I have a catkin_ws with an src folder where the packages are there and everything. What should I do if I wish to run another ROS project that I found on Github? Should I copy/paste the folders from there to my original WS or add that another folder to ROS_PACKAGE_PATH or should I use that one on docker?

I realise this is all very new to you, and seeing as this is your first ROS Answers post you're not used to navigating the support fora either, but I would like to ask you to tell us what you've found yourself already.

Your post combines a couple of questions in one (building packages from source and catkin workspace management), and I'm pretty sure we've discussed all of those previously here on ROS Answers in multiple Q&As.

If you haven't yet, please use Google to search using either your own keywords, or some of those I mentioned. Be sure to append site:answers.ros.org to your query.

Finally: if something is still unclear, edit your current post, adding a section which explains what specifically you'd still like to discuss, while adding references to the Q&As you already found.
