Does hector_mapping use IMU data for 2D SLAM?

Does hector_mapping (or hector_slam) use IMU data for 2D SLAM? The paper mentions IMU is used for sensing roll/pitch motion, and Dr. Stefan has mentioned the same in answers. I just wanted to know if IMU can be used for sensing and correcting yaw motion?
