I'm a total newbie when it comes to 3D mapping stuff.

I am working on a project that requires heavy 3D work, I came across these two things octrees and octomap.

I know that octrees has 8 nodes per region node, which is useful for modeling 3D spaces and doing calculations on them.

So what does octomap do, what is the difference?

Thank yoU!

An Octree is a data structure. Octomap is a C++ library that implements Octrees. From their website: Octomap "implements a 3D occupancy grid mapping approach, providing data structures and mapping algorithms in C++ particularly suited for robotics. The map implementation is based on an octree"
