How to use laptop's webcam for facial recognition using ROS and OpenCV

I'm new to ROS and while I was watching a tutorial on making a facial recognition application using ROS and OpenCV,the tutorial demanded the usage of webcam and Dynamixal servo.I was wondering what is an alternative to this, maybe can I use my laptop's wecam and if yes , please explain the procedure.
