I'm new to Linux/coding in general...soo

  • I created a workspace: lidar_ws
  • I've sourced the bashrc
  • I've cloned the package from the repository onto src
  • I've started a roscore and opened another terminal

Im trying to get the lidar to work using :

roslaunch sick_tim sick_tim551_2050001.launch

and get the following

RLException: [sick_tim551_2050001.launch] is neither a launch file in package [sick_tim] nor is [sick_tim] a launch file name
The traceback for the exception was written to the log file

Can someone help me out pls ty

Could you first please clarify why you are trying to use sick_tim from a source install instead of using the binary packages for ROS Melodic that are available? See also the wiki/sick_tim page and #q320046 for a Q&A that provides some guidelines on how to know when something can be installed using apt.

Part of those instructions do not:

  • A Compile the code

  • B Source the setup file for ROS

  • C Source the devel/install space for the workspace

in order to have built any code for that package or launch file to exist. Please follow the basic tutorials: http://wiki.ros.org/catkin/Tutorials/...

I would actually really suggest to avoid building from source unless absolutely necessary.

@stevemacenski is correct though: the workspace is never build and some other steps are missing as well.

I'd also seen that, but didn't want to start solving an xy-problem.
