Any alternative of hector-mapping or laser scan matcher?

I am trying to make a 2d map by using Hokuyo LIDAR. I have Ubuntu 18.04 and ROS Melodic installed and neither hector mapping nor laser scan matcher doesn't have melodic versions. Do you know any alternative for 2d mapping without odymeter?

Do you move your lidar or is it fixed ? Seeing #q63457 seems to indicate that you can use gmapping by publishing a fixed odometry frame if that's what you want.

Moreover, from hector package git apparently you can use hector on melodic but you would have to build from source which is not recommended.
