can't communicate with gdb when installed ros-kinetic from source (workspace)

I am currently working on ubuntu xenial with gazebo 7. Formerly I was using debian based ros packages and was able to run my nodes from a launch file in gdb. Now i have installed ros-kinetic from source as per the instructions on its official website but couldn't launch my nodes now in gdb. What could be the reason???
