Recommendations on communications hardware (router and wifi repeater)

The current setup that we have is:

Robot:

webcam   | USB to master
webcam   | USB to master
webcam   | USB to master
webcam   | USB to master
motor 1  | USB to master
motor 2  | USB to master
motor 3  | USB to master
motor 4  | USB to master
master   | Ethernet to WiFi repeater (with integrated Ethernet switch)
WiFi repeater  | Wireless to router (DHCP server)

Base station:

Router | wireless to devices
GUI       | Wireless to router

The problem is that I am experiencing a lot of lag and communication drops when trying to control the robot even at low resolution video streams (200 x 200 px) and a lot of jitter in the control commands.

Among some software modifications to reduce the bandwidth required, we are looking to upgrade the communication stack hardware. We are currently using a router supplied by our ISP and a random dusty WiFi repeater we found in a covert.

Is there any router and WiFi repeater recommendations that you guys can make to us so we don not end up getting something not fit for our system? We have budget to spend on the hardware, and ideally we would like to have a small footprint on the WiFi repeater (as it goes on the robot) and a high gain antenna on both repeater and router.

Any hardware recommendation will be gladly accepted.
