How can I make a very simple grid global planner?

From the image below (from global_planner) you can see that they have a grid global_planner: image description

You can see that the path is not that simple, there are many small turns.

How can I make my robot, to simply go straight then go down and then go left (for the map below) instead of making many small turns?
