RViz status error
I am working through: http://edu.gaitech.hk/turtlebot/create-map-kenict.html
The turtlebot is equipped with Kinect, no Asus Xtion mounted.
All commands can be executed, and I use the keyboard to manipulate the robot to go around my room, but the LaserScan status is Error. Any clue how to fix it?

Firstly, Find out the laser scan topic is available using command
rostopic list
.
Then check data is available on the topic by
rostopic echo <topic_name>
.
Open Rviz and click on Add >> By Topic and select the appropriate topic.

Can you provide a little more info? Things like what does work, what is the exact error output, console output, etc? Without some more info it's hard to say what's going on.
