Hector Mapping z parameter

Hi all,

I am unsure of what exactly is the function of parameters laser_z_min_value and laser_z_max_value. I don't really understand the explanation given in the package summary. How is the height detected using a 2D sensor? Or is this parameter useful only in the case of a tilted 2D sensor?
