How to update hokuyo URG-04LX from SCIP 1.1 to SCIP 2.0 in ubuntu 14.04?
I am using an old (2006) hokuyo URG-04LX LIDAR. When I try to configure it using URG_Configurer.exe in Windows, it says that the device is incompatible. The device needs to be modified to SCIP 2.0. Further I want to use the ROS hokuyo node. Therefore, I am looking for updating the LIDAR in ubuntu 14.04. Can anyone show some proper direction towards updating the firmware successfully?

A quick google search turns up some old windows utilities that look relevant: https://www.hokuyo-aut.jp/02sensor/07scanner/download/products/urg-04lx/data/u_dl_firmware.html

I have seen that already. My doubt is if I try to update it from Windows, will it be fine to work in ubuntu?

I haven't tried it and don't own a URG-04LX myself, but the ROS hokuyo_node specifies that the sensor should be upgraded to SCIP 2.0, and this looks like a tool to do that, so I would give it a try. These sensors use a standard protocol that should work across different operating systems.
