navigation with range_sensor_layer in navigation_stack ?

I have an rc car with arduino as speed controller and computer being nvidia tk1. I want to implement a collision avoidance. I have 5 Ultrasonic sensors mounted in front of rc car with odometry and IMU sensors. I am not using any laser scanner. Is this a feasible with rangesensorlayer ?
