detect / capture / scan objects with ros,asus xtion

I am working on an practical project before i start my bachelor Thesis. In the Practical Project i have to lern how i could scan work areas around me and how to detect/capture/scan 3D Objects (like normed car parts etc.) in this area.

I am searching for a solution but not that succesfully. I hope you could help me in this case, i would be very happy about it. What is the best way to get my problems solved?
