RViz Segmentation fault on launch with AMD W5000 proprietary drivers
Hi all, I have been trying to get RViz working on my new workstation since a couple of days without any success. RViz crashes with Segmentation fault and Core is dumped as soon as launched. Please help me out here.
I am using fglrx-13.152.4 driver recommended by AMD for FirePro W5000 alongwith 2x 24" LCDs. So if I don’t install this driver, I am able to run RViz, but the dual screen setup does not work, I just get a mirrored display. I did try running RViz in gdb but there it never crashed. I tried both ROS Groovy and Hydro on Ubuntu 12.04.3 (Kernel 3.8.0-29) Any ideas on how to correct this?
The following is the terminal log: https:// drive.google.com/file/d/0B4maFDfdH9ZiUWNSelBCUklLUnM/edit?usp=sharing
[Sorry I am a newbie, I was not able to paste the terminal output here, so uploading it as a text file via Google Drive]

Instability of rviz with non-Nvidia drivers/GPUs is a known problem and there doesn´t appear to be a "silver bullet" solution to it. Your best bet is to look at answers to some other questions asked before (like this one) and looking at the rviz troubleshooting page. If you find a solution to your problem not yet described, you can also add that there.

Hi Stefan, thanks for your reply. I had tried these solutions before, I gave it a shot again over the weekend , but it did not work. I even tried disconnecting one monitor. Well I'll ask if I can get the card replaced to similar prices nVidia card. I think I have a colleague who has a Quadro 2000 on a similar machine in my university, I'll try installing ROS on it and see how that works out.
