I am having trouble running Gmapping. When I try to run it, I get a package not found error, the same with rospack find too. Is it something I am doing or has Gmapping been a diffrent utility in Groovy? Note that I installed ROS using the binaries.

It's convenient if the ROS environment variables are automatically added to your bash session every time a new shell is launched

Did you actually install the gmapping package from the repo? Respectively the slam-gmapping stack/meta-package

I did do it properly as specified in the tutorail. However I have been know to make mistakes. How should I configure the enviroment for gmapping?

If that not the issue who do I install it? Is there anyway to check other than rospack?

Gmapping is just a ROS package, no special things needed. General setup: http://wiki.ros.org/ROS/Tutorials/InstallingandConfiguringROSEnvironment (and the previous tutorial)
