Revision history [back]

Heard about someone asked about ROS2GO. Our team developed it so just come here to answer this question.

Install Ubuntu and ROS on your internal hard drive, external hard drive or thumb drive are all the same, fundamentally speaking.

In your scenario, just install the ubuntu for your own use, Do-It-Yourself should be OK. ROS2GO is designed and maintained to be compatible with many up-to-date laptops and desktops. If you are a novice and have a very new type of wifi adapter definitely ROS2GO will save you much time.

There are some other problems with installation on a USB thumb drive. Actually, ROS2GO is a high-speed flash drive which is more like SSD, a common USB thumb drive may not be suitable for OS. Sometimes, the ROS server may be inaccessible due to many reasons, you should check whether you cannot install ROS on USB or you cannot install anywhere.

In an open-source society, you can always research or study or do something yourself, will spend more time but learn more knowledge or skill. ROS2GO provides a ready-to-go ROS system and portability for convenience.
