ROS has a support of the current and two previous releases, i. e. indigo and hydro and groovy at the time being. You can still install hydro, it should work without troubles, see:

However, from the user point of view there are no major differences between hydro and indigo, see You will likely able to understand what's going on if you use indigo while reading your hydro book. "normal" user code is portable in the most cases.
