Hello all,

I have a question about the depth resolution in mm of these two devices. Our goal is to use one of these cameras to do a 3D shape reconstruction of a robot we have. I'm struggling though to understand what these cameras are capable of.

For the Kinect V2, I have seen two different answers. Some sources give the impression that the resolution is 1 mm as that is what unit they are claiming that the sensor returns the data as. Other sources have given me the impression that it is sub mm as the data is given as a 16 bit int over a range of 0.5 m to 3m.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry, but ROS Answers is a forum to ask questions about ROS.

While there are ROS drivers for the devices you mention, that does not make this a ROS question. It's at best tangentially related.

I would suggest you post your question on a more appropriate forum.
