How to use move_base with a 3D map ?

Hey guys,

I am using movebase for path planning at the moment and I am wondering if it's possible to use movebase with just a 3D map or do I have to convert my 3D map (for localization) to a 2D map again?

Does anyone have experience with a 3D map for localization and a 2D map for planning? What is the best way to convert 3D to 2D and making sure that they will overlay correct (that my 3D localization pose and goal points in my 2D map will fit)?
