how to add a robot arm

I'm trying to add a robot arm to my robot to pick up stuffs up to 3 pounds. Would you kindly help to suggest a few arms and possible pointer to related software? Hopeful arm is not too expensive (> less than $2K or $1K?). I saw a few old arm related ROS tutorials (http://wiki.ros.org/arm_navigation/Tutorials/Running%20arm%20navigation%20on%20non-PR2%20arm) but hope to get latest ones,
