what is the different between bfl and amcl, is both ok for robot location?

I know that amcl needs scan sensors and odom data and a know map, but amcl needs a prettey good init position . my question is what is the different between bfl and amcl ? if I want to use bfl , what steps I need to do ? I am new in Robot Location, I appreciate any help .
