move_base documentation
Is there any kind of documentation describing the movebase package besides http://wiki.ros.org/movebase ?
I really want to understand how does it work.

I am not aware of it. But you can check the other packages in the navigation stack (itself included) to have a bigger picture of the system behavior as a whole, specially the dwa_local_planner and the global_planner.
If that is not enough, you can always access its code to figure out what it is doing.
