Are these not available as Debian packages?

I see a few Debian ros-indigo packages relating to kinect, but I'm not sure which ones are needed.

It depends on which Kinect you have. Some of the newer Kinects need these different drivers.

Because the turtlebot indigo software is configured to work with the Asus Xtion Pro. You need to download Microsoft Kinect drivers and set environment variable for kinect. You can find drivers here and tutorial for installing it here.

After installing driver go to this link and configure environment variable for kinect.

I don't know why they didn't mention about KinectSensor driver in the official turtlebot documentation.
