Release the same package with different name (*_dev/unstable etc.)

I can't seem to find similar questions so far.

I just realized there's no packages released into ROS (I'm looking at hydro where the greatest number of packages are released so far I think) that have _dev or similar suffix that is common for some libraries in software development in general. I now wonder if that is prohibited in ROS or not.

Our team is tempted to separate a ROS package into multiple versions depending on the maturity level and API compatibility of upstream libraries, and still want to release all into ROS.
